The story of Another Era begins with the global financial crisis of 2008. Ambitious businessman Leo Ho Ting Sang wanted to buy out Fong Chung Yam’s business group, but Cheuk Kai Tong stopped him in time. Furious, Leo decides to out a plan to destroy him. Ten years later, Cheuk Kai Tong becomes one of the richest men in the city, but the psychological torment of his son’s untimely death has put him bedridden, soon followed by a coma. His daughter, Cheuk Ding Yiu learns to manage the family business, and together with her trusted accountant Ko Chit, she starts a business war with Leo. Leo’s wife Cheung Ming Hei, Fong Chung Yam’s grandson Fong Chak Yu, and rookie entrepreneur Ching Hoi also join the war, starting a new era of business politics.

The story is set in the middle of ancient China’s Ming Dynasty: Four martial art experts, led by emperor’s uncle, formed an imperial secret service, called them self "The Dragon’s Protectors." Immediately after they have foiled the assasination attempt of the emperor, a complex and devious conspiracy of treason, which involved a Japanese Samurai gang, was also unveiled. Just as the team head into the clues and investigate deeper into the web, they soon discover a small connection linking them back to their own organization. As in result, each prominent member of the Protectors team must to use their skill, wisdom and expertise, to solve the mystery that threatens the very existence of the "Dragon’s Protectors."

The drama documents the rise and fall of three entrepreneurs, who founded Lik Tien Century Construction together to achieve the ultimate goal of developing a pollution-free city in Hong Kong. Vendetta and love serves as strong subplots throughout the series, with the vendetta between two families being the most prominent.

Lam Ka Yi is a kindhearted girl who was electrocuted while saving a kid from a falling signboard. Passerby Ku Dak Ming tries to revive her through mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but fails to bring her back to life. However, this incident causes Ka Yi's spirit and Dak Ming to have a special link.
