Sit Yan Gwai is a fictitious legendary general who helped the Tang dynasty defeat invaders from the East during the reign of emperor Lee Sai Man. The story begins with the emperor having a dream that a general in white armor will rescue him one day. His adviser deciphers this dream and claims that the name of the person is Sit Yan Gwai and a search is made to seek him out in the army drafts. The search is hampered of course when corrupt officials try to claim the fame for themselves and poor Sit Yan Gwai is drafted into the military as an army cook.
