Synopsis

In Republican-era Shanghai, Murong Qing Yi suffers years of abuse from his birth mother after being mistakenly switched at birth. While working as a doctor far away in a different city, through a series of accidentally found letters, he meets Ren Su Su, an orphan with secrets of her own. As they slowly get to know each other, they gradually fall in love. However, Su Su needs to save someone and in a twist of fate that leaves Qing Yi forever scarred and falsely imprisoned, she fakes her death and disappears, leaving Murong Qing Yi devastated.

Three years later, Ren Su Su returns, engaged to his brother under a fake name and identity. The reunited pair is no longer the people they once were. One is consumed by resentment over what he believes to be a betrayal and the hell he was put through, while the other carries a pain she cannot bring herself to reveal.

As they test and challenge one another, love and hatred become deeply intertwined. Just as misunderstandings begin to unravel, and their feelings rekindle, the nation is plunged into crisis.
